Certified translation in the UK
Although the UK does not have a particular body to accredit 'certified' or 'sworn' translation, official translations required for birth, death and marriage certificates, legal documents, academic certificates, transcripts and so on can be self-certified by a professional practising translator who is a member of a professional body such as the Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIL). Chinese Technical Translations can provide you with certified translations from English to Chinese to be used for official/legal purposes.
Certified Translation vs Notarised Translation
A certified translation is where the professional translator certifies that they are a qualified translator, that is it was they who performed the translation, and that the translation of the official document is accurate and true to the best of the translator's knowledge and ability. Translations certified by a professional translator who is a member of a professional body (e.g. the Chartered Institute of Linguists) are sufficient for most official purposes.
However, sometimes organisations require a notarised translation rather than a certified translation. A notarised translation is where a translation is sworn before a solicitor (or a notary in Scotland), in which case the legal professional does not verify the quality of the translation but rather verifies the identity of the translator. Therefore, please make sure you are clear about what you require before placing your order with us.
